Plot of "The Bluest Eye"

The plot of the story is about a girl named Pecola Breedlove, who wishes she was born with blue eyes. She feels that if she had blue eyes she would be considered beautiful instead of being called ugly and thinking she is ugly herself. She has a rough childhood. All kids of different gender call her ugly and she believes every word. She has a strong-minded friend, Claudia, who has protected and stood up for Pecola. Claudia has a older sister but Claudia plays the roll as the oldest. Pecola wants to look like Shirley Temple, because she feels that if she looks like her all the family problems will disapear and she will be called beautiful. A new girl comes to their school and trys to be friends with Pecola, but in the end she just calls her ugly like everyone else.

The saying "apple never falls far from a tree" relates to Pecola because her mother, Paulline, believes she is ugly. Pecolas father never met his father and was never taught how to treat a lady so he beat every woman who was apart of his life. He later on in the book rapes Pecola because he found younger women attractive. This messes up Pecolas childhood becase she found to be pregnant by her father and the town teases her about it. She end up having a miscarriage but still believe she is beautiful because a indian gave her a wish to now have blue eyes that she can only see. The conclusion of the book ends with Claudia saying "its much, much, much too late."
